Wouldn’t it be great if all workplaces resulted in the same feeling?

Holistic management and its fruits.. From Guest Blogger, Seacia Christensen, Steiner Teacher, Education Associate, OMC Group. I have recently returned from a year living in the west. A wild place where a red hot shore line meets the cool aqua waters of the Indian Ocean. I moved up there for a job. It was my dream job; I was under qualified and over enthusiastic. I had visited the town in august of 2013 and had heard about a small community school that had an alternative curriculum. I myself was coming to the end of a two year advanced diploma, which specialised in Steiner education or Waldorf as it is known in the northern hemisphere. I was so stunned to [...]

Insights from inside Google that will transform how you live and lead’ Laszlo Bock If you are like me, looking through a list of business related books doesn’t always result in overwhelming excitement, but ‘Work Rules’ isn’t your ordinary textbook. Google has been named ‘The Best Company to work for’ by Fortune magazine, five times in the USA and numerous times all over the world. According to LinkedIn Google is also ‘the most sought after place to work on the planet’ it is also a product of great interest as it is one I and most people utilise many times over everyday. Trained Staff Create Value

For those old enough to remember, there was a line in the theme song from the TV sit-com Cheers that still holds true today for many people going to a hotel, a restaurant or any hospitality outlet for that matter. The theme for the show, set in a Boston bar, ended with the line "Where everybody knows your name, And they're always glad you came" We all know ourselves that intangible and automatic feeling we get walking into a venue where the staff are engaged, good at their job, friendly, care about their customers and want you to have a quality experience is something that draws us back. As hoteliers, you want staff that not only drive a good business [...]

Loyalty, Ham Steaks & Pineapple

I grew up in a small rural town in the Riverina called Wakool. Quite often we would travel to Melbourne to visit relatives. On the trip home, which for four small children took forever, we would stop for tea. As we pass through Heathcote questions are asked, cases are pleaded. Most likely. promises not to fight in the back of the car are made to parents who have absolutely no intention of not stopping. Just before 5pm our Datsun 180B, blue with white roof, filled with hope and expectation pulls up in front of the super fancy hacienda facade of The Elmore Hotel. Bruce apologises for arriving before dinner service but this is entirely unnecessary. In the quiet of the [...]
